Posture and Spectacle Wear

Jennifer Long - posture and spectacle wearThe concern:

A worker was experiencing neck and shoulder pain which limited his ability to work.

Analysis:

  • Observation of the worker showed that he was tipping his head to an awkward angle to read from his computer monitor.

  • An interview with the worker revealed that he was wearing spectacles which were appropriate for conventional computer use.

  • An assessment showed that his workstation was not a conventional design. This caused him to adopt awkward postures to see through his spectacles.

The solution:

  • The workstation was modified where possible to make it more visually comfortable.

  • A different spectacle lens design was recommended which reduced his need to adopt awkward postures.
