Eye protection

The concern:

An occupational health and safety issue existed within a company because some workers were not wearing eye protection.

Analysis:

The company had provided a selection of different eye protectors.

Interviews with workers revealed that they did not find any of the eye protectors comfortable to wear.

The solution:

• The company would continue supplying a range of eye protectors (since not everyone has the same shape head or face)

• Workers who experienced discomfort were individually fitted with eye protectors that were comfortable and gave adequate protection.

• All workers were given instruction in correct maintenance of their eye protectors.
